MOPA: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that there is no condition for airlines to operate from both airports, and the Secretary of Civil Aviation is handling the matter.
Speaking on the continuity of Dabolim after Mopa commences operations, Sawant said that the order issued by Centre in 2010 will be implemented and supersedes an order issued before that.
“The Secretary of Civil Aviation is looking into the matter of Oman Air informing customers of shutting operations at Dabolim and shifting to Mopa from January 1,” he said, replying to queries by Goemkarponn.
He said Dabolim and Mopa will co-exist, and nitty gitties are being worked out.
Sawant further said that four Domestic and four International carriers have been filed for 100 slots.
Sawant further said already 800 persons from Pernem have been employed by GMR, and in the next phases, around 1500 persons are expected to be employed.
The airport is expected to be inaugurated after December 8, after the culmination of the Gujarat elections.
Asked whether PM is also scheduled to inaugurate the new Zuari bridge, he said there is no such plan yet.
The four-lanes of the New Zuari bridge were also expected to be inaugurated in November or December, but that does not seem to be the case now.
