PANAJI: In a swift enforcement action, the Department of Tourism, Goa, apprehended an individual at Baga beach for allegedly offering tourist services without official authorization, in violation of the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982.
The incident took place during routine patrolling by the Tourist Police Unit, accompanied by a Warden from the Tourism Department. The team spotted a man engaging with tourists and offering services without proper credentials. On being questioned, the individual identified himself as Meghnath Das (25), a resident of Laxman Bar and Restaurant, Baga, Bardez.
Authorities confirmed that Das did not hold the necessary approval from the competent authority to operate as a service provider. He was subsequently produced before the Department of Tourism for action under Section 26 of the Act.
The Department has reiterated its commitment to protecting tourists from unregulated operators and ensuring that tourism-related services adhere strictly to legal and safety norms.
