VASCO: Tourists on Monday evening drove a Mercedes car at Bogmalo Beach and the vehicle got stranded on the shore.
Eyewitnesses said the high-end car almost entered the water but got stuck on the beach barely a few metres away from the sea.
Locals alleged that the driver and occupants in the car were allegedly intoxicated while steering the vehicle towards the beach.
“The car was on the main road for quite some time almost creating a traffic jam. However after locals made a noise, the car moved forward and reached near the entry of the beach,” said the local.
“We assumed the car would proceed into the parking area, but much to our surprise, the car was driven straight towards the beach and almost knocked down some people who were walking on the beach.”
“However, the car got stranded on the beach and when locals tried to help them, they insisted that they did not want people to touch their car,” the local added.
Locals then alerted the Vasco police and a police team went to the site to investigate.
Speaking to reporters, the locals such incidents have happened in the past and cars have been driven by tourists at Bogmalo Beach.
“Authorities must erect a gate to prevent entry of cars into the beach or should at least have a signboard warning people against driving cars on the beaches,” said a local.
