PANAJI: Government of Goa in association with Directorate of Art & Culture, Department of Tourism, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Department of Information & Publicity, other Government departments, Shree Dev Vithal Panchayatan Devasthan, Vitthalpur Sankhali and Deepawali Utsav Samittee, a local cultural organization from Vitthalapur, Sankhali every year celebrates “Tripurari Poornima Festival” on the bank of river Valvonti at Vitthalapur, Sankhali, as a State Festival.
The festival showcases various traditional activities like sailing of traditional lamps in the river Valvonti (Deep dan), releasing of traditional ‘Saarangas’- handcrafted balloon, in the sky, ‘Tripurasur-Vadh’, cultural programme. The main feature of the festival is the spectacular State Level Boat Competition that is held in the basin of river Valvonti. More than 50 handcrafted creative boats participating from different parts of the state are sailed in the river.
This year, the festival will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 7.00 p.m. onwards with Procession of Lord Shrikrishna, sailing of traditional lamps in the river Valvonti (Deepdan), Presentation of Cultural programme, Palkhi Procession of Shree Vithal Rakhumai, Traditional Boat Show, Tripurasur Vadh and Releasing of traditional Saranga lamps in the sky.
The festival will be graced by Chief Minister, Former Chief Minister / President, Shree Dev Vithal Panchayatan Devasthan, Minister for Tourism, Minister for Art & Culture, MLA, Savordem constituency/Chairman, GTDC, MLA, Mayem Constituency/ Chairman Goa State Horticulture Corporation, MLA, Poriem constituency /The Chairperson Goa Forest Development Corporation, Chairperson Sankhali Municipal Council, Sarpanch, Village Panchayat Karapur, Sarvan, President Deepawali Utsav Samiti, Vithalpur Sankhali and Secretary, Art and Culture, HOD’s and officials of Government of Goa.
The 1st winner of State level Boat competition will be given Rs. 35,000/-, along with rolling trophy and certificate, the 2nd winner will be given Rs. 30,000/- along with rolling trophy and certificate, the 3rd winner will be given Rs. 25,000/- along with rolling trophy and certificate, the 4th winner will be given Rs. 20,000/- along with certificate, The 5th winner will be given Rs. 15,000/- along with certificate, Consolation Prizes Rs. 8,000/- each (5 Nos.) along with certificates, Honararium of Rs. 5,000/- each to 10 selected boats along with certificates and also the participation allowance will be given to remaining participants of Rs. 4,000/- each along with the certificate.
