VERNA: Verna Police have solved a theft case involving construction materials worth approximately ₹2 lakh by arresting two accused and recovering the stolen property.
The accused have been identified as Punit Babdin (30), a resident of Raibandar and a native of Gauri Kalan, Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, and Sunil Mahngu Prasad (31), originally from Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, and presently residing at Shapur-Bandora, Ponda. Police said Babdin had been working at a scrap yard for the past one-and-a-half months, while Prasad has been operating a scrap yard for the last 15 years.
According to police, the case was registered following a complaint lodged by contractor Maiboob Hawaldar (30), a resident of Sancoale. He alleged that unknown persons stole construction materials from Plot No. 7 behind Kesarval Hotel in Verna between 6 pm on July 19 and 9.30 am on July 20.
The stolen items included 40 MDS metal shuttering plates, 60 jack props and TMT bar wastage of 8 mm, 12 mm and 16 mm, with the total value estimated at around ₹2 lakh.
During the investigation, Verna Police traced and recovered the stolen materials at the instance of the accused. Both men were arrested and produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), which remanded them to five days’ police custody for further investigation.
An offence has been registered at Verna Police Station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Prisley Carvalho to determine whether the accused were involved in similar theft cases.
