PANAJI: The Police Department has suspended two constables on extortion charges from a couple late at night at Dona-Paula. Also, a departmental enquiry has been initiated.
The Constables Sainath Parab and Akash Navelkar were on night patrol and intercepted at car late at night at Dona-Paula and started asking for money in the name of violating state-level curfew norms.
As per information, the couple was at a sea viewpoint late at night when the constables on the official police motorcycle arrived at the point and allegedly forced the couple to pay Rs 10,000 to settle the matter outside as they had violated the night curfew norms and accompany them to the police station.
The complaint even said that the constables even directed the couple to the nearby ATM when he denied having money. He also said that the constables at last settled for Rs 9,000.
The entire incident was sent to the official numbers of DGP Goa and North SP after which a departmental enquiry was initiated, and constables were suspended pending an enquiry.
Earlier, three police personnel attached to Calangute police station were placed under suspension for extorting money from two couples at Aguada fort during the curfew.
