CUNCOLIM: Burglars struck in Kegdicotto, Cuncolim on Sunday night, targeting two unoccupied homes and escaping with valuables, the full extent of which is still being determined.
Both homes were vacant at the time—one belonging to a family currently residing abroad—making them easy targets for the intruders. The thefts came to light on Monday when the overseas homeowner noticed the external CCTV camera feed was down and alerted relatives. Upon visiting the residence, the family members were alarmed to find the doors forcibly broken open.
Inside, the cupboards had been ransacked, indicating a thorough search by the burglars for valuables.
Footage recovered from the CCTV system captured at least one suspect entering the premises by leaping over the gallery, giving investigators a possible lead.
In the wake of the incidents, local residents have urged the police to increase night patrolling and take action against individuals found loitering suspiciously in the area. There is growing concern over the rise in such break-ins, especially in homes left unattended.
Police have begun an investigation into the case and are reviewing surveillance footage as part of their efforts to identify the culprits.
