Panaji:Baga beach reported a rescue earlier today of a tourist while the Calangute beach witnessed a lost-and-found case of a Goan child from Karaswada. A tourist was rescued at the Sinquerim beach from drowning.
At around 14:10hrs an Indian male tourist, aged 51 years went for a swim at Baga beach. On entering the waters, he ventured deeper into the waters where he experienced an inward pull. On realising that he was unable to swim, he gestured to the lifeguard for help. Drishti lifesaver Sudeep Arondekar observing the victim, realised that the victim had got caught in a rip current and immediately rushed to him with a rescue tube. The victim was secured to the tube and brought back to safety where a primary medical check up was conducted.
At the Calangute beach, a Goan family of three, from Karaswada settled themselves onto a spot on the shore. While the father went for a swim in the water, the mother was enjoying the scenic beauty of the sea while their five-year old daughter was playing around the area. After a while, at about 15:05hrs , the mother realised her child was not around her and began panicking, while shouting out for help. They approached the lifesaver’s tower for help. Drishti lifesaver Siddhesh Bhosle immediately carried out a search operation with the aid of the lifesaver’s jeep while announcing about the missing girl. The girl was found after a long search, playing sound on the shore. She was taken from the spot and reunited with her family.
In another incident that took place around the late evening hours of about 18: 25hrs, a tourist was noticed entering the waters at Sinquerim beach. As it was past sunset, the lifesavers had warned the public to stay out of the waters. Despite this, the man went for a swim and began struggling to swim in the rough waves. One of the shack waiters of Calamari noticed the victim struggling to swim and immediately alerted the lifesavers. Drishti lifesaver Satish Gawas rushed towards the victim and secured him on the rescue board, bringing the victim back to the shore. The victim’s airways were cleared after which he vomited huge amounts of water. He was released with safety precautions and advised to visit a doctor for further recovery.
