Margao: The Covid positive UK returnees, who were isolated at ESI Hospital, created a ruckus for delay in their discharge and test results by the hospital authorities following which police were called in.
The patients threatened to leave the hospital last night demanding they should be allowed to home quarantine themselves.
The patients alleged they have been forcibly admitted in the hospital pending results of their tests from Pune laboratory.
After these protests authorities have decided to subject all those completing 15 days in hospital to another Covid test and allow those whose test reports come negative to go under home isolation. There are around 29 covid patients who are either UK returned or their contacts who are presently housed in the ESI hospital.
Of these 15 have completed 15 days. Their samples have been sent to Pune lab to test for new UK variant of Covid-19. Of the 979 UK returnees who arrived in the state since December 9, a total of 63 were isolated at ESI hospital.
