QUEPEM: Reinforcing its commitment to food safety, authorities in Goa have taken action against a soda and carbonated beverages manufacturing unit in Quepem for operating without a valid licence and under unhygienic conditions.
During a routine inspection, officials found the unit functioning without registration under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), while also using raw materials lacking proper label declarations. A penalty of ₹20,000 was imposed, and the unit was ordered to shut operations until full compliance with food safety norms is achieved.
Further investigation into the supply chain led officials to another facility in Margao that was manufacturing raw materials for the Quepem unit. Although this supplier possessed a valid licence, it was found distributing products without mandatory labelling details. Authorities imposed a penalty of ₹15,000 and directed the operator to rectify all labelling deficiencies in accordance with FSSAI regulations before resuming distribution.
Officials reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue, stressing that ensuring safe, hygienic, and compliant food products for consumers across Goa remains a top priority.
