PANAJI: PONDA: Sadiq Khan, 20, an Uttar Pradesh native who currently resides in Bhoma, was taken into custody by the Mardol police on suspicion of raping a minor girl.
The police have arrested the accused twice, the first time for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in August 2023.
The police claim that after becoming friendly with the victim, the accused conducted this deed. Sadiq took advantage of their friendship by luring the girl to one of his friends’ rooms, where he sexually raped her.
It has been learned that the accused is running a scrapyard in Tiswadi taluka, and both the victim and the accused are non-Goans.
According to Ponda DySP Shivram Vaigankar, the accused has been evading justice since the crime occurred last week. In accordance with the pertinent provisions of the POCSO Act, the Mardol police have filed a case against Sadiq Khan and are currently conducting an investigation.
When the victim’s relatives searched for the child when she failed to return home at night, the incident was discovered. The following morning, the girl went back home and told her parents about the incident. Her parents then complained to the Mardol Police Station.
Sadiq was remanded in three days of police prison after he was later appeared before the JMFC, Ponda.
