VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar on Tuesday expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for approving special trains to facilitate the participation of Goans in the Prayagraj Purna Mahakumbh, a spiritually significant event held once every 144 years.
“This initiative will allow Goans to participate in this rare and spiritually significant occasion, creating lasting memories,” Salkar said.
He further informed that a planned trip for MLAs and ministers to Prayagraj with the CM Dr Pramod Sawant has been postponed at the request of the Uttar Pradesh Government due to the heavy crowds expected on Mouni Amavasya, a significant day in the Purna Mahakumbh.
Salkar revealed that he had raised the demand for restarting the Dev Darshan Yatra Scheme during Makar Sankranti, emphasizing the once-in-a-lifetime nature of the Purna Mahakumbh. “This event will never happen in our lives again. I noticed that every state is doing its bit to help people participate, and I felt the Goa Government should also provide this opportunity to Goans,” he said. Salkar further noted that he had a series of meetings with CM Dr. Pramod Sawant to discuss the proposal.
Highlighting the BJP’s inclusive approach, Salkar stated, “The BJP has never worked for a particular religion, though the opposition continues to target us. We have successfully handled events like the Exposition with a budget of ₹300 crores and provided direct train services to Vailankanni for devotees. Families of all religions have benefited from the Dev Darshan Yatra Scheme.”
Salkar also shared that the announcement of special trains has already generated an overwhelming response. “After the announcement, I received numerous calls from people eager for details. The CM was initially concerned about the large crowds at Prayagraj and the potential challenges for Goan pilgrims. He wanted to ensure that Goans would not face any issues amidst the massive gathering,” Salkar said.
To ensure a seamless experience for Goan pilgrims, the government plans to appoint coordinators both in Goa and Prayagraj. “The details will be announced soon after a thorough study, and the government is committed to making foolproof arrangements for this special pilgrimage,” Salkar concluded.
