VASCO: Locals irked over the vegetable market road encroachment done by some fruit and vegetable vendors at Vasco market. Visitors feel that the municipality should quickly act on such path encroachments and should keep enough path to do shopping and movement of the people
Visitors to the Vasco fruit and vegetable market feel that the vendors from this market need to be disciplined by taking strict action against those vendors who infringe upon the internal road of the vegetable market.
Several buyers who frequently visit this place to buy fruits, flowers, veggies face great inconvenience due to the encroachments done from both sides by some vegetable and fruit vendors in the Vasco market.
The Vasco market committee of the Mormugao municipality has been actively carrying out anti-encroachment drives to clear any encroachment. This committee has been instrumental in keeping this marketplace clean and encouragement free. Still, a few months before, due to the assembly election scenario, this encouragement issue got neglected by the municipality. But now, with the assembly election over, things need to come on track, and such illegalities need to be cleared immediately, said Saurabh, a market visitor.
Later, when contacted Vasco market committee head, councilor Mathias Monteiro, he said that he, along with other committee members, undertook several drives to clear encroachment on the market road by the fruit and vegetable vendors in the past. Many people noticed a need to carry out such an anti-encroachment drive in the vegetable market, but we need labor. Sadly, some municipal workers are hand in glove with some vendors who inform them beforehand about anti-encroachment movements, and therefore, many times; we are unable to catch hold encroachers.
Monteiro, although assured that within a few days, he will clear the encroachments and will make a clear path in the vegetable market for the people.
