PANAJI: Goa suffered a crushing 176 run defeat against Vidarbha in their final Group C match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite Under 19 cricket tournament at the GMSS Sector 26 Cricket Ground in Chandigarh on Friday. The result left Goa without a victory in five matches during their campaign.
Chasing a target of 250, Goa were bowled out for just 73 in 23.5 overs, struggling against a disciplined Vidarbha bowling attack. Mohit Yadav was Goa’s highest scorer with 33 runs, while Mihir Kudalkar contributed 12. The remaining batters failed to build meaningful partnerships, resulting in a comprehensive defeat. Captain Aaradhya Goyal was unable to bat due to injury.
Earlier, Vidarbha recovered from a difficult position to post 249 runs in 49.5 overs. Goa’s bowlers made an impressive start, reducing their opponents to 56 for five and putting pressure on the batting side.
However, half centuries from Saish Bhise, Sarvesh Ikhankar and Om Luthade turned the innings around. Bhise top scored with 94 runs, narrowly missing out on a century, while Ikhankar scored 58 and Luthade added 51. Their contributions helped Vidarbha recover from the early setbacks and establish a strong total.
For Goa, Chigurupati Venkat led the bowling effort with four wickets for 42 runs. Atharva Devidas claimed three wickets for 41 runs, while Shamik Kamat picked up two wickets and Afridsab Rajkannawar took one.
Vidarbha’s bowlers then dominated the chase, preventing Goa from recovering after early setbacks. Nihal Maurya, Om Luthade and Om Dhotre claimed two wickets each, while Yash Patil and Himanshu Kawale took one wicket apiece.
The defeat brought Goa’s Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite campaign to a disappointing conclusion, with the team unable to register a win across its five Group C matches.
