FATORDA: Goa Forward Party (GFP) President and MLA Vijai Sardesai today demanded that private events and annual cultural festivities should be exempted from the 10.00 pm restriction imposed on loud music in the open.
Addressing a press conference, Sardesai accused the government of inefficiency in protecting the cultural ethos of the State and the sentiments of people.
He recommended installing online decibel meters to check noise pollution.
Sardesai demanded that government should immediately stop coal handling activities in the morning as it causes pollution and it is in violation of the Environment Protection Act.
“Why didn’t the state government or the AG did not make a plea with the HC that cultural events should be given an exemption,” questioned Sardesai.
He further said that the sound of train, or flights coming into the state after 10 pm should also come under the law.
“The state government goes ahead with all their events, but when it comes to the public, everything is stopped,” he added.
Sardesai said that coal handling at night should be stopped at night.
The High Court has asked concerned authorities to take stern measures to stop loud music beyond 10 pm except on designated dates.
