PANAJI: Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party (GFP) Chief Vijai Sardesai Advocate General’s statement on tiger reserve looks as if he is speaking for some politician.
“Advocate General Devidas Pangam’s statement on tiger reserve looks as if he is speaking for some politician. Tiger reserve is a must to save Goa and Mhadei; The ESA area expert committee was totally misguided,” said Sardesai.
He further said that a Union Minister hailing from Karnataka is on the record stating that because of this imminent declaration of tiger reserve, the diversion of Mhadel river may not be possible.
“If we want to save our lifeline we have to see to it that a tiger reserve is declared at the earliest.” he added
Sardesai also expressed his concem that the public is being misinformed about the notification to designate ecologically sensitive areas.
He emphasised that while the government may view these areas as bur-densome, “they are essential for preventing environmental catastrophes, such as those witnessed in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh due to unplanned development.
