PORVORIM: WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar today said that water stored in the pits can be used for irrigation purpose subject to needful permission from mining department.
“Water stored in the pits can be used for irrigation purpose subject to needful permission from mining department,” said Shirodkar.
He further said that the exists some bauxite mining pits in Naquirm, Canaguinim-Quitol village which are under the control of Directorate of Mines and Geology which is issuing authority for lease of mines.
“Abandoned mining pits naturally recharges the ground water table,” he added
Minister said that the concerned leaseholder/erstwhile leaseholder shall undertake all the precautionary measures as per the mining plan and final mine closure plan as approved by the Indian Bureau of Mines.
