CANACONA: Stating we have the earth’s mantle to let us live happily, Goa State Biodiversity Board Member Secretary Dr Pradeep Sarmokadam said ‘Nature has enough to satisfy everybody’s needs’.
Speaking further Dr Sarmokadam said “But, as the development wave has engulfed mankind, we are degrading the soil on a day-to-day basis. There are no answers to some of the questions, but we are unknowingly spending our lifetime earnings, mostly on hospitals and medicines as our health is deteriorating due to climate change. Items like plastic are being burnt in the open aggravate and create lung disorders,” he said.
He said the Chemical fertilizers used in agriculture affect the overall temperature while also destroying the soil. “Howsoever, Indian culture and traditions are the best in the world and we have to follow the traditional way of life with the power of knowledge’ ‘With the sea on one side and the scenic mountains on the other, Canacona taluka is blessed and is a very a rich taluka in biodiversity’. Dr Sarmokadam also opined that if one grows medicinal plants in the forest as part of horticulture, Canacona taluka will also prosper economically,” he said.
Dr Sarmukadom was speaking on the topic of Balkrishna Prabhugaonkar alias Sachit-Master lecture series on Environment Complementary Lifestyle Supplement for a Sustainable Future in its 28th year of this lecture series.
Shradhanand Vidyalaya of Poinguinim is awarded this year Sachit Master Rolling Trophy for topping the examination from 5th to 10th Std. The Rolling trophy was received by Shraddhanand Vidyalaya of Poinginim Headmistress Seema Prabhugaonkar in the presence of other teachers and students.
Earlier, Nirakar Education Institute Chairman Prashant Naik welcomed, while Urvi Phaldessai, and Dr. Aman Prabhugaonkar took part in the discussion held on this occasion.
