Aam Aadmi Party today welcome the notification issued by the government with cancelling taxes payable by goods and passenger vehicles and appreciated that at least for once the government acted immediately and responded within a day to the memorandum submitted by it.
It may be recalled that on 22nd December AAP Calangute team lead by Manuel Cardoso along with volunteers had presented a memorandum addressed to the Transport Minister to the Assistant Director of Transport at Mapusa.
The memorandum while accusing Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho of being a liar like the chief minister lamented that only a statement has been made about withdrawing taxes for goods and passenger vehicles while no notification to that effect has been published.
“It is good that the very next day namely on 23rd December the government issued the notification which proves that the BJP government has to be pushed and forced to act. We will keep highlighting issues that Goenkars face and stand with them every at moment. Currently AAP is the only credible opposition” said AAP Goa convener Rahul Mhambre.
“Many taxi drivers called to thank us for taking up this issue and easing their lives. They also spoke about how the BJP govt had turned a blind eye towards the plight of the taxikars” Said rahul
“The current BJP govt has taken a common goenkar for granted. This is a clear message to them that no longer a Goenkar will remain silent on the injustice and frauds this govt commits” Said AAP calangute unit’s Manuel Cardozo.
“Our fight for the rights of the people will continue. People have lost hopes in the current ruling dispensation and are looking towards the Aam Aadmi party with great hopes. We will not let them down” Said AAP Calangute Unit’s Shripad Pednekar
The government has exempted taxes on goods and passenger vehicles for a period of six months from 1st April 2020 to 30th September 2020 and this will be a big relief to the goods carriers and taxi drivers who have actually lost their only source of livelihood due to the pandemic, Rahul said.
