Why has the State Government not handed over the case to the Crime Branch yet? There are calls from the parents and citizens for handing over teh case to CBI for a thorough investigation, but why is CM so silent?
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has gone ga ga over the police investigations in many cases, solved in hours. But here is a case for a week now, and the police have no clue. Instead, news has been planted in the local newspaper blaming the parents? To mount pressure on them?
What an irony Mr CM? Why have you not taken strict action against the police in this case? There have been severe lapses in the police investigations, yet you say police are investigating every minute detail.
Doesn’t the deceased girl and her family deserve justice? Isn’t there any value for her life?

History seems to be repeating itself in Goa. Not just the Mahanand Naik cases, the Siddhi Naik case has brought to fore the memories of the sensational Scarlet Keeling rape and murder case.
Goa Police made headlines worldwide for the lapses in the case and the State being forced to hand over teh case to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI). That was only because the pressure mounted on the then Government from national and international media as it was a case involving a foreigner.
Secondly, the mother of Scarlet was brave enough to take on the system.
In sharp contrast, despite the media glare and parent’s demands, candlelight marches, the Siddhi Naik case does not seem to bother the Government or the police. Why? Since she was a local girl? Is a life of a Goan girl so cheap?

Right from day one, the police have erred in the case. Prima facie, they said it was a suicide.
It does not need rocket science to understand why anyone would commit suicide with clothes off? This itself should have been a trigger for police to treat this as rape and murder.
Even if the post-mortem said the death was due to drowning and not rape, it could still be investigated as murder as the girl may have jumped into the sea to save herself from the attackers?
While registering the case and investigations, all these theories have to be looked into. Isn’t this thought to the police during training? Merely writing suicide based on post-mortem reports is a “donkey’s work”.
Why did the police not ask the GMC Forensic department to save her vitals like viscera, DNA sample and the Swabs for further investigations considering the gravity of the case? Maybe looking at the poor father, they may have thought the case would go nowhere and die its own death.
The doctors at GMC also need to be taken to task. They cannot be absolved in the case, either.
Looking at the seriousness of the case, why did they not suo moto decide to save the samples? These doctors are human beings with brains and need not be told to do everything. Of Course, they are not robots, or are they? They should have used their brains and saved vitals.
Seriously, the police and the doctors have botched up the case, and Siddhi Naik, her family, may never get justice.
