Now the question is, who are these culprits who are tarnishing the image of Goa by luring the tourists to the dance bars and clubs? Of Course not Goans. Does the police not know where such incidents take place? What is the beat police doing then? Are the beat police burning the fuel at the cost of the exchequer only to collect haftas? Where is the accountability in the police department? Or are these constables asked to turn a blind eye to such places by the higher-ups?
Any person who goes to Baga, Anjuna or even Porvorim circle will know where the illegal business of massage parlours and dance bars happens. Police, if interested in action, the only thing the police need to do is take rent a bike and move around the locality. The touts will run after them asking “ladki chahiye, hot ladki, drugs” etc.
Unfortunately, the police, who come from thousands of kilometres away, find these notorious joints, but the police staying in Goa and born and brought up here think there is no illicit business happening in Goa. Isn’t it?
No, not Goans are involved in the business; only the non-Goans are involved in such incidents, and these people have the blessing of the high and mighty. How, only our politicians can tell…
In the last few days, the developments in the coastal areas like Calangute and Mapusa have been disturbing as there are incidents of tourists being looted by the club or parlour owners.
There have been at least two incidents in the last two weeks; one is in Calangute, wherein Gujarati youth were looted by illegal dance bar employees, and on Sunday, the disturbing videos of the 11 Maharashtra youth being robbed and assaulted in Mapusa.
These are not the first cases, and surely it will not be the last unless and until the Goa Police deals with the issue with iron hands and nobody involved should be spared, be it ministers, MLAs, councillors, sarpanches or panchas.
The illegal businesses of dance bars and massage parlours are tarnishing the image of Goa everywhere.
It is high time that Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte take some exemplary steps to curb this menace.

If one can recall an incident in 2015 when the Calangute villagers led by the Save Calangute NGO had smashed a notorious business called “Cricketers”. This joint was supplying girls to the tourists, and the villagers, led by Kundan Kerkar and others, had protested and even filed complaints, but the police, instead of arresting the culprits, started harassing Kerkar’s family and the other villagers.
The villagers of Calangute were right, as when the police failed to take action, they took the law into their own hands. To date, the Cricketers pub is closed. Kudos to Kerkar and his group. Such more actions are required if Goa is considered a clean and hospitable destination.
In the very first action, the Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, must transfer all the police personnel. This must be done every three months so that these policemen do not settle down and start collecting haftas.
Secondly, bring an honest police inspector who will not accede to the demands of any politicians and take strict action on such touts and businesses.
Third, file cases against the panchayats and municipalities for allowing such businesses in their jurisdiction.
