CM’s swift action came within days of him visiting the neighbouring Belgavi city in Karnataka. During his visit, he must have encountered the same problems of potholes that the common man faces despite paying huge taxes in the form of road tax etc. In one day’s visit, he understood the plight of the common man.
He also ordered a fact-finding inquiry into any lapses in other road contracts and submitted a report in 45 days. We wish to remind him that all such roads which are in bad shape are done by their pet contractor – the BJP’s son-in-law M Venkata Rao.
Now, who will BELL this cat… M Venkat Rao, a close relative of BJP top leader?
The road stretch from Pernem to Karaswada by MVR is in a pathetic State and uneven, with flyovers and roads being dug up after laying concrete as it started developing cracks even before the inauguration.
In a rare strict action, the Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the repairs of the Sankhali-Chorla ghat road section, which was recently taken up at the cost of Rs 11.86 crores.

His care-a-damn attitude was the main reason for the floods in Gurim and many other parts.
The Chief Minister then had named everybody responsible for the floods but did not mention action against MVR.
MVR, the contractor, is notorious for its shoddy work in Goa, which has been sub-standard to the point of collapse or delayed for years, and in some cases, it is simply abandoned after creating major issues.
Locals say MVR is solely responsible for the sub-standard work on National Highway 66, which has caused the floods.
The construction debris is not of locals but of MVR, who has been doing sub-standard work on the highway and dumping everything on the sides. Why the chief minister did not blame the MVR and take action?
Locals say MVR does not have the technical background or expertise to handle such large projects and uses sub-contractors to finish smaller portions of work while enjoying the profit margin of the entire contract.
Despite this, the State government continues to give contracts to MVR as he is related to a top BJP politician.
It is high time works of MVR be stopped immediately and investigated for quality by private consultants, and also that engineers of PWD who have abdicated their responsibility of supervision be held liable and suspended for dereliction of duty.
If CM can order an inquiry for a project of Rs 11 crore, which is a good sign, he can definitely call for an inquiry for projects worth thousands of crores.
In fact, there was a point in CMs note which said the Engineers were insensitive towards people. Well, sir, several youths have lost their lives due to hap-hazard works by MVR. What about that, sir? Did you even mention them in your speeches? Why use different yardsticks for different contractors? Or your power is restricted, and MVR certainly seems out of your reach?
The BJP, which came into power riding on the back of an anti-corruption wave against the Congress, appears to have perfected the art of corruption and doesn’t seem likely to stop even if the lives of Goans are lost in the process.
