CANACONA: It is preparation and renovation time to be ready for the fast-approaching new tourism season, as hectic activities are marred with locals alleging illegalities on the coasts of Polem and Galgibaga beach coasts.
Villagers of Polem have complained to the GCZMA over massive construction activities at the Polem coast in total violations of the CRZ rules and regulations and called for an immediate halt.
The alleged illegal and unauthorized construction of fencing/barricade with GI pipelines and Zinc sheets and Foundations with laterite stones to construct Huts and Shacks besides blocking public pathways by putting permanent concrete columns and Iron gates are reported to the GCZMA and other authorities. The complainants also alleged the construction of an illegal footbridge and an illegal retaining wall in gross violation of CRZ norms.
At first, Polem resident Anand K Naik addressed two separate letters to the Dy Collector, Canacona and the Sarpanch V P Loliem-Polem intimating illegal and unauthorised construction activities in violation within the ambit of CRZ asked to carry out site inspections, panchanama of the alleged illegalities.
Locals including Anank K Naik signed by Deepak T Pagi, Ulhas K Raikar and Mukesh K Naik on behalf of villagers, addressed another letter to Member Secretary GCZMA, Dy. Director of Panchayat and Dy. Director of Tourism, Margao listed several illegal construction activities in violation of the CRZS norms at Polem coast and sought action to stop the same.
Similarly, residents of Galgibaga have alleged illegal large-scale construction activities in close proximity to a government primary and pre-primary school in Talpona area, to construct tourist resorts.
Sources informed the illegal construction activities have been reported to the Panchcyat of Poinguinim by the local panch, and the VP of Poinguinim sarpanch Savita R Tawadkar has issued a stop-work notice to the concerned party. It is learnt that the alleged construction activities are going on in full swing to build permanent tourism huts within the no-development zone of the CRZ area.
