DABOLIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Sunday has assured that work on the flyover near Dabolim is progressing at full speed, with only minor delays in one or two sections due to clearance requirements.
Speaking to the media, Godinho clarified that authorities are currently verifying if the existing flyover height falls within the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) regulations. If the planned height does not violate the OLS norms, work will continue without any changes. However, if adjustments are needed, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will modify the height accordingly in consultation with the Airport Authority of India and the Indian Navy.
“There is no question of stopping the flyover. There is no question of stopping the good development that is being carried out in Goa,” he asserted.
Godinho also criticized South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes without naming him, accusing him of misleading the public. He claimed that certain “negative elements” were trying to create unnecessary controversy but had failed to garner public support.
“There are some negative elements who take a small issue and blow it out of proportion. They were raving and ranting, expecting a huge outcry, but people have lost faith in them. The public trusts the Goa government and believes in development,” he said.
The minister further questioned whether these critics cared about the heavy traffic from the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), which could affect Dabolim residents and lead to accidents.
“Do they want traffic jams at all junctions, causing inconvenience to residents? They either don’t understand or deliberately try to spread negativity against good projects,” Godinho stated.
He reaffirmed that the flyover is a crucial infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion and improving road connectivity, and the government remains committed to completing it as planned.
