MARGAO: The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Goa, in collaboration with the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Goa, under the aegis of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, conducted a Yuva Aapda Mitra Training Programme at Nirmal Nature Campsite, Tilamol, Quepem.
The programme focused on developing trained youth volunteers capable of providing immediate support during natural and human-induced disasters.
The training programme was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Director Shri Rajendra Haldankar and Training Instructor Shri Satyawan Gawas.
Master Trainers Hiren Dsouza, Sahil Sawant, Rohan Kamble and Shubham Vir imparted training to the participating volunteers.
The programme aims to strengthen community-level disaster preparedness by equipping young volunteers with essential knowledge and skills to respond effectively during emergencies.
To date, a total of 697 volunteers from North and South Goa have been trained under the Yuva Aapda Mitra initiative. The participants include volunteers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS) and Bharat Scouts & Guides (BSG).
The initiative seeks to create a trained network of young volunteers who can assist authorities and communities during disasters and other emergency situations.
