PANAJI: The Directorate of Education (DoE) today has raised concern over increasing instances of corporal punishment in schools.
The department has directed all institutions to adopt a Zero Tolerance Policy towards corporal punishment, training for teachers and counselling support for students.
The Directorate of Education directs all the Educational Institutions in its jurisdiction to adopt the directives i.e. Zero Tolerance Policy towards corporal punishment, any violation of this policy should be immediately addressed.
“Awareness and Training to organize regular training sessions and workshops for teaching and non-teaching staff to emphasize positive and constructive disciplinary practices.Reporting Mechanism students to report any grievances related to corporal punishment,” the order states.
Further, the DoE will direct institutions to get counselling Support for students to promote a supportive and nurturing educational environment.
The Directorate of Education said to conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with the above directives and if any institution is found in violation will face appropriate disciplinary action.
“Heads of all Govt./ Govt. Aided/ Unaided Primary/Secondary/Higher Secondary Schools are directed to circulate the above guidelines to their teaching and non-teaching staff and advise them to refrain from inflicting corporal punishment on students and also emphasize that deviation in this regard will be dealt seriously and strict measures will be taken against the violators as per law,” the order states.
