CANACONA: NSUI Canacona President Harsh Dessai has urged the government to take immediate action to address safety concerns along the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (MPCBR), citing damaged roadside infrastructure and poor lighting.
Dessai alleged that several roadside railings along the four-lane bypass have become dangerously rusted, with some sections collapsing and posing a serious threat to pedestrians and motorists.
He claimed that he recently rescued a child from falling through a broken section of the railing after the child, who was out on a walk with family members, leaned against the damaged barrier near a bridge.
Dessai also raised concerns over non-functional highway streetlights, stating that poor visibility has increased the risk of accidents and has allegedly led to the deaths of several cows and buffaloes on the road.
He called upon the concerned authorities to urgently repair the damaged railings, restore streetlights, and take immediate measures to ensure the safety of all road users before a major tragedy occurs.
