Panaji: Chief Minister and Home Minister Pramod Sawant informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that no custodial deaths occurred in police custody in the state between 2020 and June 30, 2025. However, ten custodial deaths were reported in Central Jail, Colvale during the same period.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Venzy Viegas, the Chief Minister stated that six additional deaths were recorded at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim. Detailed reports of the cases from IPHB and Central Jail were submitted as annexures to the reply.
The government also clarified that no compensation has been provided to the families of the deceased.
