CANACONA – It’s the 13th. You heard it right. The 13th accident at Kolsar -Galgibaga has been recorded at a well-known accident-prone Crossing on the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Road (MPCBR) NH-66 in Canacona on Saturday.
According to police sources, a Tourist taxi from Karnataka bearing registration no. KA30 A-2998 headed towards Margao got hit by a Maruti -Van bearing registration no. GA-08 R-1857, which came on the MPCBR road at a crossing in Kolsar -Galgibaga. The car (which had its airbags blown off due to the hit-impact) reportedly suffered injuries and was shifted to Canacona community health centre.
According to residents, this is the 13th accident at the Kolsar site, where two persons have already lost their lives so far.
In the recent past, a two-wheeler rider from Karwar, while heading towards Karwar, had hit a truck crossing the road at the same junction and reportedly died after three days. Even before the MPCBR road was commissioned, one local resident had succumbed to injuries he suffered in a mishap at the same site, residents recalled.
Angry residents called on the authorities to act before more lives were lost, saying the crossing was illegally opened up from the original road divider.
Sources further informed that Congress leader Janardan Bhandari has decided to call on the PWD engineers to inspect the site once again and take a reasonable decision to avoid further mishaps at Kolsar resulting in loss of life and property.
According to Bhandari, a team of all the department officials will inspect the junction at Matoshree Hotel, Kolsar, Galgibaga on the MPCBR road at 4 pm
‘”All Departments (@ Mamlatdar Canacona @ PI Canacona Station @ PI Traffic Cell @ Highway Department @ Local Panchayat Team) officials are coming to do site inspections with our team and locals”, Bhandari informed Goemkarponn.
