CALANGUTE: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao today said that defection is political and social crime and that BJP is promoting it to usurp powers.
“Defection is political and social crime and that BJP is promoting it to usurp powers. the Goa speaker failed to dispose of the disqualification petition in 90 days, it seems he is waiting for completion of 900 days. We condemn BJP’s strategy of promoting defection,” said Yuri Alemao
He further said that he was confident that the people of Goa will show the doors to all eight defectors in the 2027 assembly election. They have switched for their personal gains and not in the interest of the public.
“BJP is promoting defection across India. It is a factory of defection, where they invite MLAs and cleanse them by putting in a ‘Washing Machine’. It is murder of democracy. We condemn it,” he added
Yuri also said that BJP leaders have the art of creating defections and thus they usurp power and destabilise governments which want to work for the people.
He also said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during the birthday celebration of defector Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had said that he joined Congress by quitting BJP, but he came back with seven MLAs.
“I condemn the acts of the BJP which is finishing democracy. These defectors joined BJP to convert their lands and gain benefits of power,” he said
Alemao said that all three MLAs are not saleable commodities. I have a conscience. We will not allow anyone to betray the mandate of people and will never backstab them.
With the support of people, who are venting anger against the defectors, we will strengthen the Congress party and will work in the interest of the state.
“The BJP party calls itself ‘Party with difference’ . Yes, it is ‘corruption and defection’. We will form the government with the support of our people, who want to end the corruption and bring peace in our state,” LoP added
