MARGAO: A 26-year-old man from Malbhat, Margao, died after his scooter allegedly collided with cattle sitting on the road near Hegdewar School at Zariwado in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Maina Curtorim Police Station (MCPS), the deceased has been identified as Rohit Sanjay Kavlekar (26), a resident of Malbhat, Margao.
Police said Rohit was riding a scooter without a registration number plate from Zariwado, Davorlim, towards Vasudev Nagar, Davorlim, when the accident occurred at around 3.45 am. On reaching near Hegdewar School, his scooter reportedly rammed into cattle sitting on the road, causing him to lose control and fall.
He sustained severe injuries in the crash. Local residents immediately alerted the 108 ambulance service, and he was shifted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, where doctors declared him brought dead.
An inquest was conducted, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination at SGDH. The police surgeon certified the cause of death as cranio-cerebral and thoracic injuries, including a fracture at the base of the skull and blunt force injury to the chest resulting in lung laceration, haemothorax, haemorrhage, and shock.
Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
Maina Curtorim Police have registered an unnatural death under UD No. 34/2026 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Ashutosh Naik.
