New Delhi: A major crackdown on examination malpractice during the NEET UG Re-Examination 2026 has led to the arrest of 30 people in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, including nine individuals accused of impersonating registered candidates.
The arrests were made following intensified checks at multiple examination centres after authorities received inputs about suspected cheating and organised fraud. Investigators believe the case may be linked to a larger network involved in facilitating unfair means during competitive examinations.
Among those arrested, one impersonator was caught at the KRK High School examination centre, seven were detained from Kendriya Vidyalaya, and another was apprehended at Hasanpur School. The accused are reported to belong to different districts, raising concerns about the scale and reach of the alleged operation.
In addition to the nine impersonators, 21 other individuals were taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the examination fraud. Authorities are examining their roles and possible connections to those who allegedly appeared in place of genuine candidates.
A detailed investigation is currently underway, with the arrested individuals being questioned by officials. Information gathered during the interrogation has prompted police teams to conduct raids at several locations believed to be linked to the suspected network.
Senior district officials are closely monitoring the probe as investigators work to uncover the full extent of the operation. Authorities suspect that more individuals may be involved and have indicated that further arrests could follow as the investigation progresses.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns surrounding examination integrity and the growing sophistication of organised cheating networks. Officials have stated that additional details will be revealed once the investigation reaches a more advanced stage.
With the probe continuing, law enforcement agencies are focusing on identifying the masterminds behind the alleged fraud and determining how the impersonation network operated across multiple examination centres.
