CALANGUTE: Stating that the proposed 30MLD water treatment plant in Calangute will resolve the water woes of Calangute, Saligao, PIlerne Industrial Estate and surrounding areas, Calangute MLA and Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo said the government has granted the administrative approval for the project.
As per the order of the government the administrative Approval of the Government is hereby accorded for the work of “Construction of 30 MLD Raw Water Pumping Station at Calangute on Tillari Intigation Canal, for Pillare Industrial Estate and Surrounding area of Calangute and Saligao”, amounting to Rs.19,90,42,700/- (Rupees Nineteen Crores Ninety Lakhs Forty Two Thousand Seven Hundred only).”
Lobo said the plant should be ready in on year once the work order is issued.
“The administrative approval has been received, no the Water Resources Department will issue tenders and then file will move for financial approval, the entire process will be completed in a month,” he said.
Lobo said that the new water treatment plant will resolve the decades old issue of water-shortage in Calangute constituency.
He said that the 3 MLD raw water will be supplied to the Pilerne industrial estate and the rest will be for the Calangute constituency, Saligao and surrounding areas.
“It was my endeavour to see that the water treatment plant comes up in the constituency,” he said.
Asked where would the funds come from, he said, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation will fund 25 p.c of the Rs 20 cr project.
“The rest can be utilised from the Rs 300 cr which is coming from Centre. This is a very crucial project and need of the hour,” he stated.
