CANACONA: A 33-year-old man died allegedly due to electrocution after he was found unconscious in a paddy field near a well at Satorlim, Gaondongrim, Canacona, on September 1.
The deceased has been identified as Yeshwant Gaonkar, 33, a resident of Satorlim, Gaondongrim, Canacona.
According to police, a call was received at around 11.42 pm from Vasu Gaonkar, informing that Yeshwant was lying unconscious in a paddy field near a well, around 500 metres from his residence, and was suspected to have suffered an electric shock.
Police reached the spot and found Yeshwant lying in a prone position in an unconscious state. He was shifted to a CHC hospital by a 108 ambulance, where the duty doctor declared him brought dead, reportedly due to electrocution.
During enquiry, his brother Umesh Gaonkar and other family members told police that Yeshwant had gone near the well at around 7.30 am on September 1 to check the water motor. When he did not return home, the family began searching for him.
At around 7 pm, family members found him lying unconscious in the paddy field near the well.
Police conducted the Unnatural Death (UD) occurrence panchanama and inquest panchanama. The body was subsequently referred for post-mortem examination at South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
Following the autopsy, the Police Surgeon certified the cause of death as electrocution.
The body was later handed over to the family members for the final religious rites.
