SALCETE: As part of a pre-monsoon food safety inspection drive, authorities inspected 43 food establishments in the Ramdamol area of Salcete, including hawkers, restaurants, fast-food outlets and roadside eateries, to ensure safe and hygienic food for the public.
During the inspection, 34 establishments were found operating without valid FSSAI registration or licence. The operators were issued notices directing them to comply with food safety regulations.
In addition, 12 establishments were penalised for failing to display the mandatory No Smoking boards, as required under the law.
Food business operators were instructed to rectify the identified deficiencies within five days. They were also sensitised on safe food handling practices, including avoiding the use of newspapers for serving food and ensuring proper disposal of used cooking oil through authorised RUCO (Repurpose Used Cooking Oil) agencies.
Authorities said such inspections and awareness initiatives will continue across Goa to strengthen food safety standards and safeguard public health.
