New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned from his five nation diplomatic tour with major investment commitments, strategic agreements and expanded global partnerships that are expected to strengthen India’s position in manufacturing, technology, energy and global geopolitics.
The visit, which covered the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Italy, reportedly generated investment interest and expansion plans worth nearly Rs 3.5 lakh crore, or around USD 40 billion. During the tour, Modi met executives from more than 50 global companies with a combined valuation of approximately USD 3 trillion.
A major focus of the visit was India’s push to become a global manufacturing and technology hub. Several discussions centred around semiconductors, artificial intelligence, logistics, clean energy and infrastructure development. One of the key highlights was a semiconductor related agreement between ASML and Tata Group in the Netherlands, aimed at strengthening India’s chip manufacturing ecosystem.
In the United Arab Emirates, energy security remained a top priority amid continuing global uncertainty in oil markets. Discussions covered crude oil supplies, LNG partnerships and strategic petroleum reserves, while the UAE announced fresh investments worth USD 5 billion in India. Defence cooperation and maritime security were also expanded during talks between the two countries.
India and Italy elevated their bilateral relationship to a “Special Strategic Partnership”, with discussions focusing on defence production, trade, mobility and advanced technologies. Prime Minister Modi also held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whose interactions with Modi once again drew widespread international attention online.
At the India Nordic Summit, discussions with Nordic nations focused on green technology, digital infrastructure, innovation and sustainable mobility. Throughout the tour, India positioned itself as a reliable “China Plus One” manufacturing alternative for global businesses seeking diversified supply chains.
The visit also saw Modi receive international recognition for India’s contributions to food security and sustainable agriculture, including the FAO’s Agricola Medal during the Italy leg of the tour. Overall, the diplomatic outreach reinforced India’s strategy of balancing strong economic and strategic ties across multiple global regions while maintaining strategic autonomy on the world stage.
