CANACONA: 59 women were screened through mammography in a special Health camp for women organized at Mataji Mandir Student Hostel in Tembewada, Canacona, on Sunday.
All the women were given written declarations by the doctor that they were defect-free.
The special day-long camp attended by Dr Stephanie Cardoz and Dr Maria, both breast cancer specialists made available through Indian Medical Association, did the screening of the women participants.
Earlier, they were welcomed by Councillor and CMC Ex-Chairperson Neetu Sameer Desai in the presence of Mataji Mandir Students Hostel in charge Shrikant Gaonkar, office bearers of the management committee Suraj Bhaireli, Sushant Naik Gaokar and Damodar Vasant Chari.
Dr Stephanie Cardoz then guided the women in attendance on breast cancer care and treatment planning; 59 women were screened and later provided a certificate that all were defect-free.
According to sources, a social awareness campaign is being implemented by the Health Department of the Goa Government under the concept of “Healthy Women, Healthy Goa” due to the increase in the incidences of serious diseases like Breast cancer among women in the whole of the country. This social commitment activity is being implemented in every village inspired by this initiative to provide free breast cancer screening of women, and if patients are found infected with Breast Cancer, further advice/guidance direction is given through the health camp.
“YOUWECAN” Foundation, run by former Indian cricket all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and the State Bank of India Foundation, in partnership with the Government of Goa, is providing free breast cancer screening for women through the initiative “Swasth Mahila Swasth Goa”. These activities are being supported by some organizations in Goa maintaining social commitment, including Mukta Drishti Foundation Indian Medical Association to organize the health camp.
