VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Thursday morning urged people to avoid the use of plastics.
Salkar was speaking to reporters during a beach cleaning drive at Baina taken up by the National Centre for Polar Research.
“We are here for a clean-up drive, and we find a lot of garbage on the beach, which is not good for the environment and the state with such a huge coastline that helps tourism activity,” he said.
He added, “as we took the clean-up drive, we found a lot of plastics and People must reduce the use of plastic. We have seen many people come to the beach for picnics and make the shores dirty. The people who come for the picnic must at least take back their plastic cups, spoons, plates and other items so that the beaches are clean and the seas are not polluted,” said Salkar.
He said people now come up with various initiatives to tap renewable energy, and we also have electric vehicles to reduce pollution.
“We appeal to people to use fewer vehicles and use public transport to reduce pollution of several vehicles on the road. We have seen extreme heat and climate change happening, and as humans, we must contribute our part by taking steps to reduce pollution,” said Salkar.
