Pernem: An 83-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a speeding motorcycle while crossing the NH-66 near Mauli Temple, Porascadem, Pernem on the night of July 15.
According to Pernem Police, the accident occurred around 8:21 pm when the accused, John Baptist Gundi Salvo Lobo (31), a resident of Bodan, Tamboxem, was riding a Hero Splendor motorcycle (GA-11-J-3500) at high speed from Naibag towards Patradevi. Police said Lobo was driving in a rash and negligent manner without due care for pedestrian safety.
The two-wheeler struck pedestrian Diagambar Babuli Arondekar (83), a resident of Porascadem, as he was attempting to cross the road. Arondekar sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, where he later succumbed during treatment.
The rider, Lobo, also sustained serious injuries in the collision.
A case has been registered at Pernem Police Station based on a state complaint filed by ASI Abhay Palyekar. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Prathmesh Parsekar.
