PANAJI: MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar has questioned the practice of giving election tickets to party-hoppers while sidelining loyal workers who have dedicated years to building their organisations. He called for greater discipline within political parties, urging them to prioritise committed grassroots workers over leaders who frequently switch parties for political gains.
Speaking to reporters, Dhavalikar said political parties must seriously introspect before the upcoming elections and decide whether to reward leaders who switch parties repeatedly or recognise workers who have served their organisations for decades.
He stressed that political discipline can be maintained only when parties demonstrate the will to take firm action against indiscipline and political opportunism. Dhavalikar also maintained that he has remained committed to his party since 1994 and is not driven by the pursuit of power.
On the BJP-MGP alliance, Dhavalikar clarified that his party has never said it would walk out of the alliance and remains committed to good governance. He said discussions on seat-sharing would take place in Delhi and the final decision would be followed.
However, he remained firm on Mandrem, stating, “Mandrem is our seat.” On Ponda and other constituencies, he indicated that the MGP would seek to maintain its political presence in several seats.
Dhavalikar’s remarks come amid discussions over alliance arrangements and seat-sharing ahead of the upcoming elections, with the MGP leader emphasising that loyal party workers should not be overlooked in favour of political defectors.
