PANAJI: Goa has launched its AI Policy 2026, becoming one of the few states in the country to introduce a dedicated policy aimed at empowering youth through artificial intelligence (AI).
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte unveiled the policy at the Goa AI Tech Conclave 2026 in Panaji.
Calling it a proud moment for the state, Khaunte said the initiative would contribute to the betterment of Goa’s youth by creating opportunities in the rapidly growing field of AI.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stressed the need to make AI accessible to a wider section of society, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of taking artificial intelligence to the people.
He said efforts should focus on expanding access to AI for skilling, startups and capacity building.
Sawant also said the vision of the Goa AI Policy 2026 was turning into action, with plans to teach artificial intelligence to students after Class 12 and prepare them for better job opportunities. He revealed that the initiative had begun on a trial basis in Porvorim.
The Chief Minister suggested expanding the programme at the taluka level by involving AI experts and utilising existing infrastructure in colleges and higher secondary schools to establish AI labs.
The proposed initiative aims to broaden access to AI education and equip young people with skills relevant to emerging employment opportunities.
On the occasion, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BITS Pilani – K.K. Birla Goa Campus to strengthen AI development in the state.
The collaboration aims to promote AI research, support startups, enhance skill development and encourage practical applications of artificial intelligence.
The launch of the policy and the signing of the MoU mark a step towards developing Goa’s AI ecosystem, with a focus on youth training, innovation, startup support and technology-driven growth.
