CANACONA – A young 17 year old girl train passenger from Goa died after falling from a running train on Konkan railway route between Loliem-Karwar station.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday while the girl along with others was travelling on a Madgaon- Mangalore train and the train after crossing the Loliem KRC Tunnel was running at full speed had crossed Goa entering Majali forests area of Sadashivgad in Karnataka state.
It is reportedly learnt that the girl reportedly holding a mobile in her hand came too close to the edge of the train door which was already open and was accidentally thrown off the train due to the strong jerks of the fast running train. It is further learnt that the girl was thrown a few metres away from the railway tracks off the fast running train. Sources further claims that due to heavy jerks of the fast moving train, her legs slipped and she was thrown away from the train.
It is learnt that both Karwar Police and KRC police were alerted and reached the spot and after initial confusion over the jurisdiction of the site where the dead body of the young girl was found, railway police took the body in their possession. Sources, informed that the train- passenger girl was found some metres away from the tracks (which is attributed to the fast running train), due to which railway police reportedly having jurisdictional powers of the incidents taking place within a distance of certain metres away from the railway tracks were initially reluctant to take possession of the body and wanted Karwar police to investigate, but later reportedly decided to take possession of the body.
The body of the Goan passenger girl was handed over to the family, and the final rites were held on Thursday evening, added sources.
