CURCHOREM: The PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral inaugurated the first phase of the newly constructed four-lane bridge at Oddar-Curchorem on Monday.
According to Cabral, the bridge is built by using the latest technology by installing a pre-fabricated span within a period of 15 months, and the second phase is most probably completed by December this year.
“The old bridge was in very poor conditions, and there was fear among the public that it may collapse at any time as it was on the main road and used by commuters regularly, including heavy mining ore-laden trucks. Therefore on request from the public, the project was taken and completed in time bound manner by spending Rs 20 crores,” said Cabral informing that the entire stretch of road from Curchorem to Assolda bridge will be converted to four lanes within the shortest possible time.
The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) General Manager, Dilip Joshi, said that the new bridge is built without pillars in between, and the second phase consisting of another two lanes is expected to be completed in December, so it could possibly be inaugurated officially on December 19.” said Joshi.
Besides the general public from Curchorem, people, particularly from nearby areas of Oddar, Xelvona and Assolda, will be benefitted more as they have to commute more often to Curchorem to do their essential marketing.
Earlier, the bridge was opened by cutting the ribbon at the hands of local MLA and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral in the presence of CCMC Vice-President Rucha Vasta, ZP member Siddharth Gauns Dessai, councillors, panch members and GSIDC officials.
