PANAJI: Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar said that the Department is in the process to revive the shrimp and fin fish hatchery at Benaulim through PPP mode.
“Department is in the process to revive the shrimp and fin fish hatchery at Benaulim through PPP mode. The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has been appointed as Technical Consultant to provide the consultancy services for preoperational activities of the proposed multi-species fish hatchery at Benaulim Goa,” said Halarnkar.
He further said that the Department had received a proposal for Expression of Interest from Niz Ramponkarancho Ekvott in the response of Expression of Interest (EOI) invited by the Fisheries Department vide notice dated 30/07/2020.
“Department has forwarded the Request for Proposal (RFP) to CMFRI in order to review the proposals and suggestions received by the Department in response to EOI,” he added.
Minister said that the hatchery to be developed shall benefit the local and young entrepreneurs having fish and shrimp farms wherein the fish seeds shall be made readily available.
“The Department conducts various awareness programmes to promote various state and central schemes to the local fishermen. 3. Department also conducts short-term training programmes on various aquaculture /techniques for the benefit of local fishermen,” the minister said.
Halarnkar said that as of now there is no shelter parking zone for fishing canoes across the Benaulim coast. However, the Department may deliberate on the same as per the need of the local fishermen.
