PONDA: The Kadamba bus stand at Ponda is in pathetic condition due to the lack of maintenance and the years of neglect from the government authorities. The internal road at this bus stand from where several buses commute, crying for the repairs which have developed big potholes.
Travellers have complained about the painful experience of bumpy rides while using this road.
For three decades, the KTC bus stand of Ponda and its internal road have been taking the beating of the time. And as time is passing by, the situation here is going from bad to worse. The passengers and the drivers of Goan and interstate buses have demanded repairs of this road at the old KTC Bus Stand.
When contacted Bandora Sarpanch Rajesh Nak he demanded the Chief minister himself to visit the Ponda KTC bus stand and witness the sorry state of this spot. Naik also termed the bus stand turning into a graveyard due to the lack of maintenance from the government authorities.
Informing more about the KTC bus stand, he said that the part of the bus stand structure has collapsed, and due to the no painting of the bus stand, it looks horrible. There is no proper drainage system at the stand, which further leads to water clogging and the floodlike situation at the bus stand during monsoon.
Although KTC Bus Stand and RTO office located in KTC Premises falls in Bandora Panchayat, the Transport Department also collects sopo for parking of buses and vehicles. However, since it is a public place, it should be kept clean and well maintained.
Naik further revealed that the KTC bus stand from Ponda was constructed some three decades ago; however, only once it was painted. But sadly it is in deteriorated condition at present. After construction of the flyover and widening of the highway, the access road to KTC and RTO office is also closed without giving an alternate road.
Speaking to the Goemkarponn, a motorcycle Pilot Dinu Naik said that it’s now 13 years since he has been working here, but he saw there is not much development. Since Ponda is in the heart of Goa, it should have been well maintained. The toilets here are often overflowing. During monsoon, stray cattle sit inside KTC premises and soil the area. There is no proper drinking water facility.
Another shop owner said he feels very sorry when college students passing from KTC road often fall due to big pothole-ridden roads at KTC premises. He recalled that the Chief Minister had promised to clear all potholes by November 1 and questioned what happened to his promise.
Meanwhile, when asked KTC Officials, they said they had informed their Higher Officials about the pathetic state of the road at the KTC bus stand. The Officials on November 11 had written PWD Division eighteen for repairs of KTC Bus Stand. However, no changes in the situation are witnessed.
