Panaji: Goa’s rising badminton talent, Aarush Pawaskar, delivered an outstanding performance at the Victor Bulgarian Junior Open International Badminton Tournament 2026, clinching a bronze medal in the Boys Under 19 Singles category in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria.
Making his debut in the Junior Under 19 international circuit, Aarush showcased remarkable confidence and maturity against a strong field of global competitors. The young shuttler won four out of five matches during the tournament and advanced to the semi finals with a series of impressive performances.
His campaign concluded in the last four after a spirited contest against Chinese Taipei’s Ming Chuan Li. Aarush fought hard before going down 11-21, 19-21, earning a podium finish in his very first tournament in the age category.
One of the biggest highlights of his campaign came in the quarterfinal stage, where Aarush stunned Bulgaria’s Teodor Mitev, the tournament’s second seed and World No. 21. In a gripping three game battle, the Goan youngster secured a memorable victory with scores of 21-12, 20-22, 21-16.
The bronze medal adds another major achievement to Aarush’s growing international record. Earlier, he had won a silver medal at the prestigious France Open U17 Badminton Tournament held in Aire-sur-la-Lys, France, in February 2025.
Aarush currently trains under coach Uttsav Mishra at Lakshyan Sports Academy. His journey has also received strong backing from sponsors Goa Carbon Limited and Solas Marine.
Speaking on the achievement, Manoj Patil described Aarush’s performance as a proud moment for Goa and praised the youngster’s immense potential on the international stage.
