New Delhi: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has reaffirmed the strengthening ties between India and Australia, saying he looks forward to hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Australia once again in the near future.
Speaking in Parliament, Albanese described India as one of the fastest growing economies in the world and highlighted the expanding cooperation between the two countries in trade, culture, education and regional security. He noted that the relationship between the two nations continues to deepen through people to people connections and shared interests in the Indo Pacific region.
Recalling his earlier visit to India, Albanese spoke warmly about the reception he received and said he was eager to welcome Modi to Australia again. He described the opportunity to host the Indian Prime Minister for a second time as a privilege he looked forward to repeating.
The remarks drew appreciation from Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green, who shared excerpts of Albanese’s speech on social media platform X. Green said the Prime Minister’s strong and passionate remarks about India made his role as High Commissioner even more meaningful. He also publicly expressed anticipation for Modi’s upcoming visit to Australia.
In his address, Albanese emphasised that Australia’s relationship with India had been strengthened through the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement and by growing engagement in education and cultural exchange. He also referred to cricket as an important bridge connecting people in both countries.
The diplomatic momentum comes days after Prime Minister Modi met Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to discuss the growing India Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in defence, trade, technology and supply chain resilience.
Following the meeting, Modi reiterated that both nations would continue working together for a “free, open, secure and prosperous” Indo Pacific region, underlining the increasing strategic importance of the partnership between New Delhi and Canberra.
