MAPUSA: Tense situation was witnessed at St Xavier’s College, Mapusa after members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhya Parishad (ABVP) held a protest demanding the installation of new Student Council members.
With this protest, the classes were disrupted and police force had to be deployed.
“St. Xavier’s College is known for its splendid performance and victories in the inter collegiate events. But over the past few years the overall performance of the college is downgrading and the reputation has gone down,” said ABVP
They further said that Students’ Council forms the backbone of students for any grievances and students look to this body as guide for their talent to be delivered on large scale but past last 3 years there has been no proper students’ council elections.
“In year 2020, it was understandable as campuses were locked down due to covid-19. For the 2021-22 batch the elections were held but with fractured process. This year the election process though not totally in democratic phase manner was held and all the posts were elected,” they added
ABVP said that still after almost 2 months the induction ceremony has still not being held and this is a serious concern for the overall development of students.
“There are several other issues which are in parallel to this which are not being addressed by
the college administration in the name of no students’ council. All these issues get no
attention and are piling up day by day,” said
ABVP said that there are no proper Gymkhana facilities for students who want to be part of sports
activities. The gymkhana is most of the time closed and students are not allowed to even
enter there. However full Gymkhana fees are taken from each individual.
The ABVP college unit delegation has tried to approach the Principal with several issues for
past one year. But every time the principal has avoided to meet fearing absence of answer.
The Principal has also ignored and avoided the elected general Secretary whenever
approached for some help and sorting out even any minor issue.
St. Xavier’s College being the champions of almost every intercollegiate event for past so
many years has failed to even Participate in events this year. Whenever the elected GS along
with the elected council members approached the Principal for permission to participate in
these events, they were not entertained and denied.
ABVP has worked parallelly amidst this fascist administration for the benefits of students.
ABVP Mapusa unit has recently organized lecture series on Young India, where eminent
speakers guided students on NEP structure, New IT Act, etc. ABVP college unit has conduced
several surveys for exam related queries during last GU-ART, semester end exams and also
during the heat wave last summer.
All this survey was thoroughly analyzed and a detailed
report was submitted to the Goa University time to time. For a healthy democratic election
process ABVP Mapusa Unit has initiated awareness campaigns for first time voting students.
