New Delhi: Disturbing details have surfaced in a brutal rape and murder case in South Delhi, where the accused allegedly attempted to unlock a biometric locker using the victim’s finger after the assault.
According to investigators, the accused, identified as Rahul Meena, dragged the unconscious 22 year old woman from a rooftop study area to another part of the house in an attempt to access valuables. He reportedly tried to use her finger to open a biometric safe, but failed as the system did not recognise the fingerprint.
Following this, the accused is believed to have forced the locker open using tools and stolen cash and jewellery from the residence. Authorities estimate that around Rs 2 lakh was taken. Investigators suspect he had prior knowledge of the house layout, having previously worked there.
The incident took place at the victim’s residence in Kailash Hills while she was alone. Her parents later found her unconscious and rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Preliminary findings indicate she was sexually assaulted and strangled, with additional injuries suggesting she resisted the attack.
CCTV footage captured the accused entering the house early in the morning and leaving shortly after. He is believed to have used a spare key to gain entry and later changed clothes inside the house to avoid identification before fleeing.
Police revealed that the accused had been dismissed from his job with the family about six weeks prior due to behavioural concerns. Further investigation has also linked him to another sexual assault case in Alwar.
After an extensive search operation involving multiple teams, he was apprehended from a hotel in Dwarka. Authorities have stated that substantial evidence has been collected and strict legal action will follow.
The case has triggered concern among residents in the area, highlighting the need for stronger verification processes and enhanced security measures in residential communities.
