SATTARI: Residents of Advoi village in Sattari taluka have collectively decided against the sale of village land to outsiders, adopting a resolution aimed at safeguarding the community’s cultural roots, environment and traditional way of life.
The decision was taken during a Gram Sabha held at the Shri Shantadurga Temple, where villagers gathered, offered prayers and unanimously endorsed the proposal.
Speaking during the meeting, residents voiced concern over the increasing transfer of land to buyers from outside the village, arguing that such transactions could gradually dilute Advoi’s unique identity and place additional pressure on its natural resources.
Under the resolution, villagers agreed that any future sale of land should, as far as possible, be confined to eligible residents within the village, with the objective of retaining land ownership within the local community.
The proposal received unanimous backing from villagers across generations, highlighting a shared resolve to preserve Advoi’s heritage and protect its interests for the future.
Residents said the initiative is intended to ensure that the village’s cultural traditions, environmental assets and community character remain intact despite rising interest in rural land.
